Filmmaking
Caro is a Darwin-based director/producer/cinematographer with an interest in strong character based and environmental stories. Caro recently shot and directed half-hour documentary ‘Democracy Darling!’, for international broadcast on Al Jazeera. In 2023 Caro co-produced documentary ‘Mamirnikuwi’, an environmental short set on the Tiwi Islands, commissioned by ABC and screening at Sydney Film Festival. Other recent works include ‘The Northerners’ and VR film ‘Storm Dog’, both climate-fiction shorts. Caro mentor-directed on documentary short 'Aliko's Film', for broadcast on SBS, and shot and co-directed feminist history documentary 'On Her Shoulders', broadcast on ABC. Caro is a 2024 recipient of the Natalie Miller Fellowship Catalyst Grant for cinematography mentorship.
As a cinematographer, Caro shot the Northern Territory stories for feature documentary Under Cover (MIFF, ABC), as well as international 4 x 52” series Wetlands Ephemeral Sanctuaries (ARTE France). Caro was recently DOP on short drama Bear, awarded a Silver at the Australian Cinematography Society NT awards.
Caro also makes story-based social impact films, TV commercials, and social media films for environmental, arts and NGO organisations across Australia. Clients have included Next Wave, Environmental Justice Australia, Spotify, Artback NT and First Nations Fashion and Design. Caro has a Masters in Documentary from VCA Film & TV school.
Anthropology
Caro is also an anthropologist, with twenty years experience working across Australia completing projects including heritage consultancy, filmmaking and consultation for First Nations Corporations, as well as working on native title claims.
Caro holds a Masters in Visual Anthropology from the Granada Centre at University of Manchester and a BA in Anthropology / Psychology from The University of Melbourne.
